Night Beats – Behind The Green Door
Night Beats, the project driven by Danny Lee Blackwell, unveiled “Behind The Green Door,” the lead track from a 7-inch record due out April 11 on Suicide Squeeze. Available online now, the song moves at a deliberate pace, rooted in a minor key, pulling from R&B grooves, raw garage edges, and mind-bending psych tones. Blackwell, stepping into the director’s chair for the first time, paired it with a video nodding to Giallo cinema. He explains the piece began as a solo instrumental crafted in 2024, shaped by thoughts of open roads and shadowed dance floors. The words came later, touching on lasting love and the divide between faith and uncertainty, with the music’s layers carrying the narrative as much as the lyrics. The flip side offers a version by Rah John, a musician Blackwell encountered off Thailand’s coast, who reworks it into a brighter, dance-friendly sound with hints of 70s Thai disco. This release ties into Blackwell’s 15-year exploration of old-school rhythm, late-night soul, and sun-warped psychedelia, rooted in his Texas background and stretched across years of travel and recording.
